Bridgetown Roti
Chef Rashida Holmes’s East Hollywood roti shack: flaky paratha wraps, turmeric oxtail patties, channa doubles when listed, and Trinidad-to-Barbados flavors built for a Vermont Avenue lunch line.
East Hollywood · 858 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029
Overview
Bridgetown Roti sits at 858 North Vermont Avenue in East Hollywood, across from Los Angeles City College and a short walk from the B Line. Chef Rashida Holmes, a former Rustic Canyon and Botanica cook, opened the brick-and-mortar in July 2024 with partners Malique Smith and Joy Clarke-Holmes after years of pandemic pop-ups, Arts District commissary pickups, and catering. The house calls the cooking Caribbean American: laminated paratha-style roti that Holmes first fell for as a child in Barbados, Flatbush-style patties from family visits to Brooklyn, and Trinidadian doubles and curry logic on the same short counter menu.
That Indo-Caribbean thread is why the room belongs on this map. Roti, channa, curry powder, and mango masala sit next to jerk wings and coco bread cutters, the same diaspora mix New York’s Little Guyana corridor works at Sybil’s and Singh’s Roti Shop. Holmes’s mother and father are now part of the floor and kitchen story; her wife, Shanika Honeycutt, curates the playlist. The room is small, colorful, and built for counter service: order, take a number, eat inside, on the patio, or walk out with a wrap.
LA already has Jamaican and other Caribbean kitchens. Bridgetown is the high-profile Trinidad-and-Barbados roti shop with serious critic attention and a stable Vermont address. Come for a weekday lunch with students and hospital staff, or a takeout roti night when you want doubles and curry without pretending the city has a Little Guyana strip.
What diners say
The Infatuation rates Bridgetown 8.4 and calls it LA’s best Caribbean food: turmeric oxtail patties from the hot case, red pepper goat roti with crispy potatoes and peanut sauce, a curry-seasoned mac and cheese pie thick enough to share, honey jerk wings sold in small but huge-piece orders, and house sauces (mango masala, lime pepper tomatillo, pineapple habanero, pepper sauce) lined up like a stoplight. It also flags channa doubles as part of the Vermont Avenue lunch scene and notes that almost nothing on the menu tops $20.
Los Angeles Times coverage of the opening centers Holmes’s multi-day roti, mom’s chicken curry wrap, green-seasoning shrimp, pumpkin and fried cauliflower roti, and a Caribbean Tings board for doubles, codfish cakes, and Cafe Tropical coco bread sandwiches. Eater LA’s January 2026 dining report, after a year in the space, still steers first-timers to the roti wraps (chicken, shrimp, or roasted red pepper goat), the oxtail and peppers patty with Fresno mango masala, and honey jerk chicken meals with plantains and cucumber salad. It also notes Aunt Vie’s cod fish cakes may be off the daily board for cost reasons and available mainly through catering, so treat that Infatuation-era staple as something to ask about.
Public chatter echoes the critic stack: fast counter service, bright sauces, filling wraps, vegan roti and patty options when you need them, and lines that move when LACC lets out. Friction shows up as a small room that fills at peak lunch, limited seating, and specials (doubles, seasonal patties, fish cakes) that rotate. This is a roti shack, not a reservation dinner.
What to know
- First-timer stack: one roti (goat pepper or mom’s curry chicken are the usual critic picks); an oxtail and peppers patty; the four house sauces; mac and cheese pie if you are sharing.
- Ask what is on the Caribbean Tings board that day. Doubles, honey jerk, and coco bread cutters show up often; Aunt Vie’s fish cakes may be catering-only when ingredient costs spike.
- Vegan and vegetarian lanes are real: channa and sweet potato roti, seasonal veggie patties, plantains, pigeon peas and rice, jerk cucumber salad. Confirm peanut sauce on the goat roti if allergies matter.
- Address: 858 N Vermont Ave (house site). Infatuation has listed a nearby 850 address; trust the restaurant site and the door across from LACC. Phone: (747) 221-9026.
- Counter service, small dining room and patio, primarily takeout-friendly. No Resy theater; arrive off-peak if you want a table.
- Hours in opening coverage ran roughly Wednesday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., closed Tuesday. Confirm on bridgetownroti.com before you go.
- Parking is East Hollywood street and lot hunting; subway via Vermont / Santa Monica is the practical default for lunch.
- Price is $$: Infatuation notes most plates under $20 before extras; goat roti lands near the top of the card and still reads as a value wrap.

- This is desk orientation from published reviews and the house site, not a Tadka Table tasting visit.
