Overview

Karachi Nihari & BBQ operates at 4002 Sheppard Avenue East, Unit 102C, in Scarborough, a short drive from denser Eglinton East restaurant strips. The house positions itself as Karachi-style Pakistani: higher spice as a baseline, slow-cooked nihari from prime beef shank at medium heat, bihari kabab (thin marinated beef or chicken, least spicy on their own heat map), Peshawari karahi with tomato, garlic, and white pepper, and bone-in chicken biryani with potatoes and plums.

Service is dine-in, takeout, pickup, and catering, with reservations recommended. The room’s job on this desk is specialty stew-and-grill, not a full Gerrard night out. Lahore Tikka House remains the Bazaar landmark; Karachi Nihari is the named-city Scarborough stop when nihari is the craving.

Come by car from most of the GTA. Pair with Hopper Hut or Aaha if you are already east for a multi-stop Scarborough afternoon.

What diners say

House testimonials and Google themes repeat the same stack: nihari served the way diners remember from Karachi, bihari and seekh kebabs, mango lassi, and generous naan. Cleanliness and family-friendly pacing show up often. The restaurant’s own copy warns that Karachi-style spice runs hotter than many Pakistani diaspora defaults and asks spice-sensitive guests to talk to staff before they order the full heat ladder.

Treat biryani and Peshawari karahi as supporting evidence after the nihari. Bihari kabab is the house’s own mildest grill lane if someone at the table wants smoke without the stew’s intensity. This is a specialty stop, not a tasting-menu room and not a chaat-and-wine night like Jamil’s.

If you only know mild butter chicken from downtown, start with bihari kabab and a half order of nihari rather than jumping straight into the spiciest karahi. Scarborough regulars treat this as a destination for one job done well.
