Karahi Boys cooks the chicken in a wide steel pot and brings that pot to the table. The chain opened a room in Newton, Surrey’s most populous town centre, on October 4, and another in London, Ontario, on October 10, at 795 Wonderland Road South.

It is the halal Pakistani chain Taha Yasin and Sultan Zahid started in Mississauga. Surrey, just southeast of Vancouver, is the room they have just added in British Columbia. London is the new one west of Toronto.

The original is at 5955 Latimer Drive, beside Heartland Town Centre. It opened on May 18, 2018, the first day of Ramadan that year. Yasin and Zahid had been running Fat Bastard Burrito franchises around Toronto. Yasin told the Mississauga News the meal is meat cooked in the pot and eaten from that same pot, with naan.

The chicken comes under three names, and they are different pots. Charsi is the northern one: black pepper, whole tomatoes, whole green chilies, and a drier masala. Potohari, named for the Potohar plateau in northern Punjab, is fenugreek with tomato and cream. Kboys is the house tomato karahi. On the Canadian menu a half charsi is C$24.99. A full is C$41.99, the pot you set in the middle of the table.

The family naan comes on a stand, brushed with butter. If you are skipping dairy, ask for tandoori roti with no butter. The company says the meat is cooked to order.

The Newton room is units 112, 113, and 114 at 12499 88th Avenue, in the shops by the Walmart at 88th and 124th. London is Unit C2. The Queen Street West location, at 741 Queen, has used these menu names since it opened in February 2021.

The chain already lists Sugar Land, Frisco on Preston Road, Sterling in Virginia, and Lombard, Illinois. Yasin called Lombard the Chicago opening in a note at the start of October. North York and East Brunswick, New Jersey, are still marked coming soon.

Share the full pot with the family naan on its stand, and say charsi if you want it drier. Seekh and chapli, the grill plates that sit beside a karahi, are in Pakistani BBQ in the Diaspora: What to Look For.
