Chef Sagar Massey opened Kalinga at 142 West Regent Street in Glasgow city centre on July 22, 2026, in the former Grilled by Ajay Kumar site. It is his first centre restaurant after Angeethi in Cardonald, which took a Michelin Bib Gourmand within six months of opening and is widely described as Scotland’s first and only Indian restaurant with that nod.
Massey moved to Scotland from India as a teenager, reached the final of BBC MasterChef: The Professionals, and worked in kitchens including Restaurant Martin Wishart and the Isle of Eriska Hotel before Sanja at Kirkhouse Inn and Angeethi. Press notes for Kalinga list yoghurt kebab, fermented chilli chicken, tandoori pomfret, qormas, biryanis, and Indian wines and themed cocktails alongside familiar curry formats.
For Glasgow diners, the news is access: the Angeethi team’s reputation moving from the Southside into the core shopping and office grid. For anyone still sorting Scottish Indian dining by old curry-house defaults, Kalinga is another reason to ask which kitchen earned the Bib and what it cooks when it expands. Confirm hours and bookings before you go; early coverage is launch-week reporting, not a review.
